Les casques Arai homologués ECE 22.06 : ce qu’il faut savoir

Arai helmets approved to ECE 22.06: what you need to know

Since July 2022, a new European standard for motorcycle helmets has been in effect: ECE 22.06 . This standard replaces the previous ECE 22.05 and imposes stricter testing criteria, particularly regarding protection against oblique impacts, visor performance, and stability. True to its reputation for excellence, Arai quickly adapted its helmets to these new requirements. Here's what you need to know.

What is the ECE 22.06 standard?

ECE 22.06 is a mandatory European standard for all helmets sold in Europe since 2024. It introduces several improvements compared to the 22.05 standard:

  • Impact tests at different angles (oblique impacts)

  • Tests at different speeds

  • Visor requirements (optics, fog resistance, impact)

  • Checks on attachment devices and overall performance

The objective is to reflect real-life accident situations, including slips and rotational impacts.

How did Arai react to this standard?

At Arai, internal requirements already exceeded those of standard 22.05. The transition to 22.06 therefore did not bring about a revolution, but rather a validation of their approach.

The brand quickly updated its flagship models to certify them by June 22nd:

  • RX-7V EVO : an evolved version of the RX-7V, redesigned for the new standard.

  • Quantic : designed from the outset to be compatible with 22.06.

  • Tour-X5 : successor to the Tour-X4, updated with all requirements.

  • Concept-XE : evolution of the Concept-X, homologated according to the new standards.

All these models retain the Arai philosophy: priority to protection, R75 shape, more advanced internal testing.

What are the advantages for the motorcyclist?

Choosing an Arai helmet approved under ECE 22.06 means benefiting from several guarantees:

  • Better protection in case of a fall with rotation

  • Improved visor performance against debris and fogging

  • More reliable attachment

  • Durability tested in greater depth

In short, it's the assurance of equipment tested under conditions as close as possible to reality.

Are the old helmets still valid?

Helmets approved under ECE 22.05 can still be worn, purchased, and used as long as they are in good condition. However, manufacturers are no longer allowed to produce or sell them new in Europe from 2024 onwards.

An Arai 22.05 headset remains a very good product, designed to above-average standards. However, for a new purchase or an upgrade, it's better to opt for a 22.06 model.

How can I tell if an Arai helmet is ECE 22.06 approved?

Simply check the homologation label inside the helmet: it will mention ECE 22.06 . In addition, the product sheets of reputable distributors (like Kore Moto Concept) clearly indicate the standard.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the ECE 22.06 standard, safety requirements have been strengthened. Arai anticipated these changes and adapted its range without compromise. Choosing an Arai 22.06 helmet means choosing performance, safety, and equipment designed to withstand the real world.
